Families May Be Divided by the Gospel

The primary responsibility of a Christian is to obey God and His Word; therefore, if there be any conflict between the commands of a husband or parents and the commands of God, or if the gospel divides the family because it can “set a man at variance against his father” and “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me,” one has the responsibility to “obey God rather than man.” Loyalty to the family should never supersede obedience to God as set forth in His Word, thus making the family into an idol (Matt. 10:35-37; Acts 4:19-21; 5:21).
