We’ve never seen anything like this since 1973 when Roe went down.
The Alabama law enacted last week to nearly abolish abortion in that state was staggeringly encouraging. This is what we have been waiting for, praying for, crying for.
I sat there stunned in February when I heard our President, Donald Trump in his state of the union address say, “Let us reaffirm a fundamental truth - all children - born or unborn - are made in the holy image of God.” I looked at Deborah and said, “did he really say that?” It was shocking enough that Mike Pence, Vice President attended a pro-life march. Unheard of!
Right now another restrictive anti-abortion law is on the desk of the governor of Missouri. It bans abortions after eight weeks and criminalizes the doctor with prison. The Governor says he will sign it.
Right now 8 states have passed restrictive laws like this. Five more have passed at least one chamber and 13 or so more have introduced them... that’s more than half the states in the union.
While these laws fail by different degrees to acknowledge personhood at conception, which IS the issue, and we will keep pressing this as the foundation of our efforts, I praise God for these developments. Why? Because they acknowledge personhood.
I praise God for our church, Hope Baptist for laboring week after week for many years, at a local abortion clinic to rescue perishing mothers with the Gospel, and babies from death.
My daughter sent this to me today on this matter. It was written by Rachel Jankovic,
“With pro-choice logic, what determines the value of a baby is whether or not the mother wants it. In Christian belief, what determines the value of a baby is if God wants it. Consequently, every baby ever born into existence is wanted. Any baby, any situation, any deformity, any abnormality, our creator God wants what He has made and we MUST imitate Him in this.
And for those babies whose parents have rejected them, babies who were considered of no value by those who do not know or worship creator God, let us not sorrow as those who have no hope. “... when my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.” - Psalm 27:10
