Cotton Mather writing of a godly pastor, “Mr. Eliot,
He would, “drive men unto the Lord Jesus Christ… The Lord Jesus Christ was the Loadstone which gave a touch to all the sermons of our Eliot; a glorious, precious lovely Christ…” Cotton Mather, Magnolia Cristi, p486
A Loadstone is a magnetized rock, Magnetite, which is one of the only substances on earth that possess magnetic force, and was used in early navigation in compasses, and are also used to magnetize other objects. Seafarers used it when they encountered cloudy weather and could not see the stars. The Loadstone pointed the needle North. Compasses help lost souls find their way home.
