Opposition from militant Islam, infiltration of secular worldviews that permeate Europe and the US, the prosperity gospel that is spreading from the West into all parts of the world…tremendous challenges that the churches face in fulfilling the Great Commission and participating in evangelism and the work of missions. Consider:

There are 7.3 Billion people in the world.

1.4 Billion are significantly reached; 2.8 Billion have had minimal (inadequate) contact with the gospel; 3.1 Billion are entirely unreached with the Gospel (42%)

However, there is every reason to be hopeful and encouraged when we open our Bibles and consider the words of our Saviour!

Jesus states He Will Build His Church! Church. Do you believe Jesus will build His Church? Will you be used by Jesus to build His Church?

*Upon This Rock…

*Not upon Peter as the first pope and a perpetual line of successors…but Peter as an apostle, along with the other apostles, received revelation from God and their inspired and inerrant teaching concerning Christ’s Person and Work became the foundation upon which the church was built.

*Eph. 2:20: “having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone.” ---exalted status…all the building is connected and aligned to and by Christ

*I Will Build: Jesus is the builder---Founder and Foundation

*The Gates of Hades (death and the devil) Will Not Overpower It/Shall Not Prevail Against It: The Church, built upon the Word of God, boldly proclaiming the Gospel is built upon an Invincible and Indestructible foundation; The Church Overcomes and Conquers as the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Christ shines into the hearts and souls of mankind.

Matt. 13:31-32 The Mustard Seed---small and insignificant…large and powerful

Matt. 13:33 The Leaven---permeates and becomes influential

Psalm 2:8 “Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your Inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.”…John 17:24: Father, I desire that they whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”

In spite of the people’s sins, indifference, and rebellion God determined to make His name great.

Isa. 2:2 “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain the Lord’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it.” (Background is the Assyrian and Babylonian Captivity)

Hab. 2:14 “For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, As the waters cover the sea.” (5-fold Woe announced; announcement of doom

Mal. 1:11 “For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to My name, And a pure offering; For my name shall be great among the nations,” Says the Lord of hosts” (Indifference…God’s name was despised)

Revelation 5:9 “And they sang a new song saying, ‘You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and nation”

Matt. 28:18-19 “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth…I am with you always, even to the end of the age… Go and make disciples of all nations”

* God will strategically maneuver his disciples around obstacles, topple dictators, convert persecutors, bind Satan, and protect His children from death, or sanctify their martyrdom, in order to make the glory of Jesus Christ known to all peoples of the earth.”

*"Let me beg you, not to rest contented with the commonplace religion that is now so prevalent." - Adoniram Judson
