Our work in the community is primarily theological. We uphold the pillars of the historic doctrines of the Christian faith so that the people around us are not swept away by the prevailing culture. We do this so that people would not lose their joy in the only object of true joy. As Paul said to Timothy in I Timothy 3:15, the church is “the pillar and ground of the truth.” One thing that we can count on is that even though the tides of evil would attempt to sweep away the pillar of truth, they will never prevail. The pillar of truth will stand against the most powerful waves of untruth.
One way that we uphold the truth is to expose the truth.
Eph 5:11 says it this way:
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord, walk as children of light”. Ephesians 5:8
Light makes things clear. Light exposes. This is the context of Paul’s command to the Ephesian church in 5:11, “Expose them”. It is important that we are truth tellers in the midst of a culture that constantly lies about life.
Following are ten ways you can expose the truth
1. Expose The truth about life in the womb
Psalm 139 makes it clear that God personally knits life in the womb. I would like to walk you through a portion of the process of the knitting of life in the womb.
Day 1 A human being is genetically complete and begins to grow
If you have studied basic human genetics or followed the human genome project, you know that life begins at conception.
A fetus is a separate genetic structure, separate immune system, a separate organism, a separate creature.
Day 18 Human heartbeat can be detected
Day 31 Human anatomy (arms, legs, etc.) develops
40 days after conception, there are measurable brain waves.
6 Weeks: EKG and EEG can be done, fingers and toes forming
Most abortions occur after the seventh week. RU 486 The Food and Drug Administration approved RU-486 for use in the United States in September 2000. The drug can be used up to seven weeks after the beginning of a woman's last menstrual period. More than 37,000 abortions were performed using pills in the first six months of 2001. The growing acceptance of this drug is reducing the number of surgical abortions.
8 weeks every organ is present.
An eight-week-old human fetus has a beating heart, an EKG, brain waves, thumb-sucking, pain sensitivity, fingergrasping, and genetic humanity. But, under our present laws is not a human person with rights under the 14th Amendment, which says that:
"No state shall deprive any person of life, liberty or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
These are our fourteenth amendment rights. We do not need the constitution to engage this discussion, but we should be thankful that the amendment exists.

I vividly recall in the early days of the pro life movement just after Roe v. Wade, a miraculous thing happened. Bernard Nathanson, one of the founders of NARAL and a prominent abortionist, who had performed over 50,000 abortions, came to believe that the he was killing babies. He became a pro life advocate and produced a movie called “The Silent Scream”. Along with the data that Nathanson presented, the centerpiece of the film was the image of early technology ultrasound picturing the abortion implement being thrust into the womb toward the baby. In pain, the baby flinched and moved away from the implement, to the wall of the uterus. I will never forget the image of the baby’s mouth opening in a scream of pain. Hence the name of the documentary, “The Silent Scream”. The church must expose the truth about life in the womb because no one else will. No one else has the ethical base or the worldview to support it. Every child of Christian parents needs to memorize this gestational process and it’s implications regarding the fourteenth amendment. Our rights are now being overrun and will increasingly be overrun as a result of this legislation.
2. Expose the fact that Scripture speaks clearly on abortion – so should we
A. It is an attack against the creation order. Genesis 1:26-27
Man is made in the image of God
Abortion attacks the idea that there is a God and He is the creator king who brings people made in His image into His world by His personal wisdom. He decides who is born. He decides what they will be like. None of us asked to be born. God was the architect of our birth. In the opening chapter of the Bible we see that God is creating people in His own image for His own glory. If you have any doubt about the appropriateness of your life, look no further.
It is His plan that is in motion. It is not mans plan. We must remember that when it comes to abortion, it is God’s plan that is being tampered with. There is a hymn that perfectly communicates this idea: “Have Thine Own Way Lord, Have Thine Own Way, Thou Art The Potter, I Am the Clay”.
B. It is an attack on the Ten Commandments, Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill
Abortion attacks the idea that life of the innocent is precious to God. He prohibits illicit killing. He prohibits murder.The taking of a life (unless it is the life of a criminal) is illegal under the 14th amendment.
The 14th amendment is grounded in Biblical Law. The fourteenth amendment is a direct application of the Ten Commandments.
C. It is an attack on the Sovereignty of God, Psalm 139:13-16, Ephesians 1:4, Jeremiah 1:5
For you formed my inward parts… you knit me together in my mothers womb. Many years ago, I would sing songs to preschool children in Sunday school. We would sing a song that became the favorite of every child I ever sang it to.It contains these words: "You knit me together in my mothers womb, You knit me together in my mothers womb, I praise you, I praise you, You knit me together in my mothers womb."
I love the way John Piper frames this truth: “The life of the unborn is the knitting of God”.
D. It is an attack on the ministry of God in the womb. Luke 1:35,41. In this story we see the bodily reaction of John the Baptist to the presence of Jesus in the womb of Mary the mother of Jesus. There was conscious, spirit filled life in the womb. See Ps 119:73: God’s ‘hands made me and formed me”. The womb should be protected. It should be safe for a baby. Notice, Job 31:15” ‘God made me in the womb”
3. Expose the magnitude of the situation: 30% of babies Conceived in America have been killed by abortion since 1973.
Over 40 million have been killed. With the American population of about 281 million, we have killed what would now be approximately 15% of our current population. Think of the difficulty we have caused to the social and economic structure of our nation. Think of the thousands of Alzheimers moms and dads with no children to care for them in their suffering. Think of the millions of uncared for elderly that will be the result of abortion. Japan, which has the oldest population of any country in the world is now experiencing severe economic decline because of their philosophy of low fertility (1.3 children per family) and abortion. In America, instead of the 40 million wage earners (killed by abortion) supporting and helping the elderly and contributing to Social Security and Medicare, supporting the older generation, now there is a declining support base as the population ages. We are coming to a time in the next 30 years when some of the economic repercussions of abortion will be experienced by all Americans. I am confident that the economic structure of the nation will be materially affected. In Japan, some economists predict that the country will slip into “semi permanent recession” as a result of the low birth rates.
Not only are huge numbers involved, there are also very highly developed babies involved. Last year, 10,000 babies were killed after the 21st week of pregnancy. This means that these babies had to be brutally murdered because they were large and vigorous little children.
4. Expose the contradictory madness of abortion: It is amazing we will abort a 21 week old baby and operate on internal organs of the one in the next room to save its life.
Babies in the womb have been stripped of their constitutional rights:
At the present time, some turtle eggs have more legal rights than the child in the womb. On the delightful beaches of North Carolina, when a turtle comes ashore to lay her eggs, volunteer workers will erect a barrier of caution tape to mark the area to keep beachgoers from tramping on the birth site and damaging eggs. You can be fined and arrested for disturbing turtle eggs.
What about baby “eggs”?
My son was squirrel hunting just yesterday and was reminded that it is illegal to shoot at a squirrel nest in a tree. You can kill the contents of a human ‘nest”, but the squirrel nest is protected by Federal game laws.
We have federal laws in the Endangered Species Act that protect the snail darter fish and the spotted owl.
In California, the law makes it a crime to disturb the nest of a seagull because the un-hatched eggs represent the potential for life.
These are just some of the ridiculous contradictions that exist in the abortion debate because people have abandoned God.
It is illegal to disturb the nest of a squirrel or a turtle, or a seagull or a spotted owl. But it is not illegal to disturb a human baby in the womb. This is contradictory madness.
5. Expose the truth that Smallness does not determine personhood
In the life cycle continuum, who is to say how large a child needs to be to be protected? At which size does a person lose his or her rights? The abortion rights contingent believes that they have the authority to determine this. But if we say that humanness is a function of size, then we leave all humans of various sizes to the fate of arbitrary judgment, which leaves “smaller” people unprotected.
6. Expose the Truth that Since Roe v. Wade, child abuse has skyrocketed America’s child abuse cases have risen dramatically, even though it was predicted by the pro abortion lobby that child abuse would drop because “every child would be a wanted child”. Tragically, this has been found to be false. Fewer are wanted and more are abused. Period. The statistics are undeniable.
7. Expose the Fact that Abortion is the direct result of illicit sex
Free sex without consequences if the main driver behind the abortion industry. The pro abortion ethic rejects the idea that God made marriage for one man and one woman in covenant for life. It is staggering to think that in most countries of the world, we have federally funded facilitation of immorality.
8. Expose the truth about partial birth abortion
In 1996, both the Senate and House of Representatives passed a bill banning partial birth abortion. On April 10, 1996, President Clinton vetoed the bill. The President insisted that there must be an exception clause for the "health" of the mother -- which, as in Roe v. Wade, has proved, as everyone knows, to be an abortion license whenever the mother wants one.
Does everyone really understand what partial birth abortion really is? What is this procedure?
In September, 1993, Brenda Shafer, a registered nurse with thirteen years of experience, was assigned by her nursing agency to an abortion clinic. She considered herself pro-choice and didn't see a problem. Here is her account of her experience:
“I stood at the doctor's side and watched him perform a partial-birth abortion on a woman who was six months pregnant. The baby's heartbeat was clearly visible on the ultrasound screen. The doctor delivered the baby's body and arms, everything but his little head. The baby's body was moving. His little fingers were clasping together. He was kicking his feet. The doctor took a pair of scissors and inserted them into the back of the baby's head, and the baby's arms jerked out in a flinch, a startle reaction, like a baby does when he thinks that he might fall. Then the doctor opened the scissors up. Then he stuck the high-powered suction tube into the hole and sucked the baby's brains out. Now the baby was completely limp. I never went back to the clinic. But I am still haunted by the face of that little boy. It was the most perfect, angelic face I have ever seen”. (Quoted from the Internet Home Page for "Campaign to End Partial-Birth Abortions.")
9. Expose the truth about God’s workmanship. This has to do with God’s premeditated, purposeful creation of human beings.
There are two main ideas here. First, God is a workman and he creates babies. Second, God has a plan for every human life that is conceived. We are His workmanship.
For by grace you are saved through faith’ that not of yourselves’ it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them”. Ephesians 2:8-10
This is about God’s authority to create how many He wants; whomever He wants; for whatever purpose He wants; for His own glory. Abortion is rebellion against God and His sovereign authority. He would be pleased to bring a Downs Syndrome baby into the world. He is pleased to bring a retarded child into the world. He creates for His own pleasure. He creates what we call high and low IQ. He loves all of His creatures; even the unproductive ones; even the blind ones; even the deaf ones; even the feeble minded ones; even the desperately dependent ones.
To resist His Lordship, is to claim personal lordship.

Almost half of all pregnancies are unintended which means that through “accidental” procreation, God is ruling the world. He is on His throne. He is determining who will be born and when. In Ephesians, we read that
“He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him in love”. Ephesians 1:4
You are on the earth today because of God’s perfect wisdom. He knit you together in your mother’s womb. You are “fearfully and wonderfully made”.
10. Expose the Horrific Implications of Legalized Abortion: Euthanasia, Embryo Research, Human Cloning, Assisted Suicide, Infanticide.
Back in 1973 we legalized abortion. This was a Pandora’s box. Now, abortion’s demonic brothers and sisters are cropping up everywhere: euthanasia, embryo research, human cloning, assisted suicide, infanticide.
We do not have time today to look at all of these emerging “technologies”. But, let’s take euthanasia.
In Belgium, Euthanasia has been recently legalized for teens 16 years or older.
Wal G, Dillman R. reports that "...euthanasia occurs at home in one of about 25 deaths, in hospitals in one out of 75, and in nursing homes in one out of 800." Euthanasia in the Netherlands. British Medical Journal 1994; 308:1346- 1349.
In the Dutch Justice Department documents we learn that the specifics of the Dutch law. Following are a number of quotations from “Euthanasia in Holland” (www.euthanasia.org/dutch.html) a web site explaining the details of these laws.
Persons 16 years-old and older can make an advance "written statement containing a request for termination of life" which the physician may carry out. [Chapter II, Article 2, 2.]
The written statement need not be made in conjunction with any particular medical condition. It could be a written statement made years before, based upon views that may have changed. The physician could administer euthanasia based on the prior written statement.
Teenagers 16 to 18 years-old may request and receive euthanasia or assisted suicide. A parent or guardian must "have been involved in decision process, but need not agree or approve”. [Chapter II, Article 2, 3] Children 12 to 16 years-old may also request and receive euthanasia or assisted suicide, but a parent or guardian must "agree with the termination of life or the assisted suicide." [Chapter II, Article 2, 4]
p. 1347: A person may qualify for euthanasia or assisted suicide if the doctor "holds the conviction that the patient's suffering is lasting and unbearable." [Chapter II, Article 2, 1b] There is no requirement that the suffering be physical or that the patient be terminally ill.
All oversight of euthanasia and assisted suicide will be done by a "Regional Review Committee for Termination of Lifeon Request and Assisted Suicide" after the death of the patient. [Chapter III]
Each regional committee is made up of at least 1 legal specialist, 1 physician and 1 expert on ethical or philosophical issues. [Chapter III, Article 3, 2] An expert in "philosophical issues" is one who has expertise regarding the "discussion on the prerequisites for a meaningful life." [Chapter III, Article 3, 2, fn 1]
It is legal for doctors to kill a patient if the patient requests it or, if the family requests it.
The age limit at this time is age 16. Today, Dutch legislators are trying push the age threshold to 12 years old.
It must be remembered that the first victims of the Third Reich were not Jews but mentally handicapped German boys who had lives unworthy to be lived. These were the unproductive and “incompetent”... a drain on the rest of society.
In “Dehumanizing the Vulnerable: When Word Games Take Lives”, William Brennan recounts the fate of a downs syndrome child under this kind of philosophy. Sandra Jensen , a Downs Syndrome child with an IQ of 70 was denied a heart transplant because, as the hospital staff told her,

The implications of this kind of thinking are horrific.
“We will choose death for ourselves – and you just wait – we will be choosing death for others as well… Active euthanasia is not only a threat to the elderly, the infirmed, the disabled, and the chronically sick, but it will soon be spoken of in terms as a duty to die”. Abortion and Euthanasia is child sacrifice for the sake of personal convenience. There is evidence that the Canaanites practiced child sacrifice because they believed sacrificing a child on the altar would win success at the favor of the gods. The god would then make them successful in their plant and animal husbandry, sending rain and all the other things that make for prosperity.
Abortion is used for the same motivation: to streamline my life so that I can be successful and not weighed down by a child.
What is next? “Pedothesia”! The killing of children who are perceived to have no future. So goes the satanic war against marriage, children and childbearing. We must wage war by our theological work that exposes the darkness of the age and our conversation that calls men and women to hope in God alone.
